Manufacturing Day 2023

Today is Manufacturing Day!

National Manufacturing Day 2023 is Friday, October 6th and Continues Throughout the Month.

Manufacturing Day is an annual event in the United States that is typically held on the first Friday in October. Its primary purpose is to showcase and celebrate the importance of modern manufacturing and inspire the next generation of manufacturers and skilled workers.

Manufacturing Day provides an opportunity for manufacturers to open their doors to the public, including students, educators, and community members, to:

Promote Awareness: Manufacturing Day raises awareness about the significance of manufacturing in the U.S. economy and how it contributes to innovation, job creation, and economic growth.  Manufacturing accounts for 15% of Kansas' state GDP!

Educate: It offers a chance for manufacturers to educate visitors about the advanced technologies, processes, and career opportunities in the manufacturing industry. It helps dispel misconceptions about manufacturing being dirty or outdated.

Inspire Future Generations: Manufacturing Day aims to inspire young people, particularly students, to consider careers in manufacturing and related fields by exposing them to the real-world operations of modern manufacturing facilities.

Build Relationships: It provides a platform for manufacturers to connect with their local communities, schools, and potential future employees. Building these relationships can lead to internships, apprenticeships, and partnerships, a potential employee pipeline!

Showcase Innovation: Many manufacturing companies use this day to showcase their cutting-edge technologies, sustainability efforts, and the role they play in addressing global challenges.

Highlight Workforce Development: Manufacturing Day emphasizes the importance of workforce development and ongoing training in the manufacturing sector to ensure the industry remains competitive and adaptive.

Support Economic Growth: By promoting the manufacturing sector, Manufacturing Day helps support economic growth and job creation in local communities and the nation as a whole.  165,000 Kansans currently work in the manufacturing industry!

Overall, Manufacturing Day is an important event that underscores the value of manufacturing in society, encourages young talent to explore careers in the field, and fosters collaboration between manufacturers and their communities. It serves as a platform for celebrating the contributions of the manufacturing industry to the economy and society at large.

Plastics Extrusion Machinery and Westlake Pipe and Fittings, both in McPherson, are examples of manufacturers who are opening their doors to future employees of manufacturing in October!
