Mr. Southeast Kansas

By Mark Chalfant on March 31, 2017

Steve Davis, aka Mr. Southeast Kansas, is retiring after a 25+ year career with MAMTC. In the words of one of Steve’s favorite singers,

Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it
Re-tire-ment

These vagabond shoes are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it
Re-tire-ment

Steve has been with the Kansas MEP program since its inception, seeing the ups and downs of many business cycles. He’s come to know many of the economic development folks, chamber of commerce directors, city leaders and managers, business owners and workers across the southeast part of the state during that time. He’s represented SE Kansas well, and he’s represented MAMTC well; he will be missed, but he’s still going to be very active in the Pittsburg community and with SEK, Inc. They’re lucky.

Personally, I’ve known Steve for the last 24 years. I’m proud to call him colleague, mentor and confidante, but most certainly, I’m proud to call him a friend. Undoubtedly, I’m not alone in this thought.

MAMTC starts a new fiscal year on April 1st, the first official day of Steve’s new career as a retiree. It’ll be a different MAMTC, the first one without Steve’s smile, insights and perspectives on life. For your years of service, “Thank You” just seems to be so insignificant. In fact, if this were a “normal” day and a “normal” blog post, I’d ask you to review it and provide comments. But it seems strangely odd to ask you to do that on this blog post, so I’ll pass. Best wishes to you, and enjoy your retirement.

And now the end is near
So I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
